textbook. It's about understanding life by experiencing life. It's
about being Lifesmart.
Lifesmart is the Horizon experiential leadership programme. It
offers young people the opportunity of a lifetime to gain
tremendous knowledge and understanding of their own individual
strengths. The last few years, after 12 intensive weeks of gaining
an impressive breadth of knowledge and skills, Horizon
participants returned to their homes changed forever. Our files
are full of praise from their parents, teachers and other referring
health service professionals.
Horizon began with the belief that building on one's strengths is
one of the best means for young people to communicate their
enthusiasm for life, as well as their concerns and hopes for the
future. Pursuing its aim of surmounting barriers to understanding
each other better, providing young people with the opportunities
for cross-cultural education, job coaching and community
service, Horizon has joined in collaboration with Work and
Income New Zealand under a grant from the Ministry of Social
Development to open the Work Confidence Programme for
Youth service.
One Horizon youth member was quoted in a Common Voice
newsletter, "Horizon is not a building or even the organisation
itself. It is the spirit that lives in our Heart."
Primary funding for the Horizon Trust comes from the Ministry of
Health through the Nelsom/Marlborough District Health Board.
